If you have recently changed computers and are having problems using your 3D Embroidery Here is what I have found to help make it work – I have a PFAFF 2144. I had to purchase 4D FILE ASSISTANT CD from my local sewing store. It was only 5.
1. Download the HASP HL Device Driver GUI Installation file first one in the table
2. Extract the saved file HASP_User_Setup.zip by double clicking on it. Note the location you are extracting to.
3. Make sure your dongle is NOT attached to your computer and run the extracted file.
5. Plug your dongle in and open the 3D Embroidery software.
Install your 4D File Assistant VSM Generic Driver. Now to retrieve your design:
1. Double click 4D File Assistant
2. Plug in the sewing machine and turn it on.
3. Click on the PURPLE machine in the upper right corner.
4. Find your design in the 3D Embroidery. All designs should come up in the center under file name.
Click on the file you want to stitch it should show up in the bottom left. Then click the right Arrow to send it to the machine.
5. After it transfers to the machine:
b. Touch the embroidery button
c. Touch the small menu button at the upper right side.
d. Touch the card/machine button, then the machine.
e. Touch the right arrow button until your design appears, then touch the design. Touch ok.
You may need to remove unused designs from the machine to have room enough to do more designs. To clean out the machine:
3. Touch the design you want to delete
4. Touch the eraser in the 2nd box
5. Touch ok if that s the design you want deleted.

SewAZ Embroidery has been working on a different kind of reverse applique, where the overlaid fabric is not cut away. She has called this technique Overlay The Applique. It uses lightweight, see through fabrics which are overlaid on top of the appliqued pieces and then detailed stitches are done on top of the overlaid fabric.
Baby Colors set has darling baby designs along with complete instructions on how to Overlay The Applique. These designs can also be used as regular colorwork designs.
I own the 4d software and am trying to install or import fonts that I got online. I unzip the package and all the fonts are there but how do I install or import them to the 4d program so it will see them. The fonts work if I double click on a single letter or symbol it will open the 4d program and the font appears on the screen, its very difficult to use it this way, is there a way to install or import the font to 4d.
If you are referring to a collection of letters that someone else has digitized then you can only open these as single designs into 4D and then align them as words. You cannot import already embroidered fonts into the 4D font folders. Nor can you align them using the Font Line type options.
It is really easy to create an endless supply of your own fonts by downloading true type fonts. Your first step is to install them in the Windows font file on your main drive.
Once this is done they will be available for you to use to create your own fonts in the QuickFonts option in 4D Embroidery. You can find this on the Letters tab. Once they are generated into embroidery fonts they will be accessible through the MY Fonts Folder on the letter tab of 4D Embroidery. They will be treated like any other font in the 4D Software.

I have installed the latest version of Embird. Please tell me how I can turn off the automatic underlay that appears when I use the fill tool or the column tools. I have not located this information under the tab.
In the Parameters screen on the right hand side in Studio just deselect Auto Underlay and then remove any of the checked boxes beside underlay to remove the underlay from Fill or Column Objects. If you cannot see the whole Parameters screen when using these tools then move the slider at the bottom of the screen on the right side and you will see all the Parameters. Alternatively if you cannot see all the Parameters, go to Objects/Parameters on the Menu Bar and click on the Parameters Button at the top of the Parameters screen. Select the option Show More Parameters . This will then show additional parameters, amongst which are more underlay settings.

When learning a new program I always hunt for the undo button. It usually looks like an arrow pointing to the left, normally located at the top, and it s in almost every program I have whether it s embroidery related or not. If I happen to get in a place I didn t mean to be in a program, I click the undo button until I get back to familiar territory or at least where I started. It helps knowing I have multiple undo s at my disposal and takes some of the fear out of making a mistake. Consequently, I get less frustrated, wind up playing more AND learning more quickly in the program. Try it next time you find yourself some place you didn t want to be in a program. I upgraded to the Embird 8.8c version today and when I am in editor I can do everything, and then when I try to save my computer freezes. I have to go into task manager and shut down. I ve tried save as, save, new name, and signing on as administrator. I want this version as the iconizer works better with my computer now, but I can t merge anything and save it. So frustrating. I am going through the tutorials, by Carolyn for the second time and really learning a ton. I am running windows Vista. Thanks. Lynn

Yes, you can create stitches as long as you like in Embird Studio. You just need to change the Parameters settings for the Outline stitch or what stitch you re using to the length that you require. Make sure that you also adjust the settings for the Maximum and Minimum stitch length as well so that they are the same as your stitch length.
At your machine you must turn off the auto-trimming command otherwise your machine will cut every stitch as it will think that it s a jump stitch. You also won t be able to view the design very well in Embird as it will also think they are jump stitches as any stitch over 10mm 1/2 inch is considered to be a jump and won t be viewable unless you select to View Jumps.

Kerning is the process of adjusting lettering to make it look right when stitching. The gaps between letters are not always consistent due to the different shapes of the letters and by using kerning you will allow Embird to adjust the letters so that they look correct.

I have an H-V 1 and I just purchased the 4D reader/writer kit to use with my machine. I am able to write one design at a time to the card but that is a pain when I am trying to write alphabets. When I am in the organizer, I select all of the designs I wish to write to the card and click send 1 it sends only the last one of the selection. If I select multiple designs and click File Send multiple It says Communication has not been established with the machine, please ensure machine is on and all cables are connected properly I don t know that I have the ability to connect directly with my machine, why can t I just write all my designs to the card.

The 3D Embroidery System is not designed to operate on Windows Vista. This is also true for earlier embroidery software. The compatible operating systems are stated on the product boxes. Therefore, it is not guaranteed that the 3D Embroidery System, or previous software, will function correctly on Windows Vista.
However, it is possible to install 3D Embroidery System software on Windows Vista. To get your dongle working, after installing your 3D Embroidery System software, see FAQ H013.
There are no other adjustments to the 3D Embroidery System in respect of Windows. Vista. The operation of the Designer SE, Designer I and Parallel Reader/Writer unit should not be affected, apart from driver installation. You may need to answer some security questions in Windows Vista while installing the hardware drivers, as the drivers were designed for previous operating systems.
A workaround is necessary when using the USB Reader/Writer and d-Card Reader/Writer. Each time you use either the USB Reader/Writer or d-Card Reader/Writer to read a card, write a card or send an embroidery with Send 1 or Send 2, you must disconnect and reconnect the unit before using it again to read, write or send.
Note that in due course, a new solution will be available for using the USB Reader/Writer and d-Card Reader/Writer with Windows Vista. If you do not qualify for free upgrades, there may be a handling fee for providing the CD containing the solution as it will not be part of the 3D Embroidery System.
